Catholic Advent Traditions

If you celebrate Christmas, don’t you think it might be a good idea to learn about how the early Christians celebrated the Advent season?

When my family first started to incorporate the Advent prayers, Advent Candle and other ancient traditions, our experience was deepened.  The prayers, traditions and spirituality added more substance to our Christmas.  So focus on the true meaning of Christmas and not on the consumeristic ideology that has permeated our society.  You’ll be glad you did…

Start with the Advent Season by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.  Be sure to scroll down to the bottom and check out the Advent Resources.

A side note: If you don’t know, the Catholic Church is one of the original Christian churches. See Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth.  2,000 years of preserving the Christian Faith, Scripture and history.

  1. I was a substitute Faith Formation teacher this week for first graders and gave the Advent lesson. I brought a wreath and the candles. It is really the magic of the season to teach this beautiful tradition with children!

  2. Awesome! I can’t wait – we are putting up our tree and and wreath this weekend.
